About Severn River Crossing Plc

Construction of the Second Severn Crossing

At Severn River Crossing Plc we aim to provide the best possible service to all people who use either of the Crossings over the River Severn. There has been a road link across the River Severn since 1966 allowing for easy passage between Wales and England. As the level of traffic increased, the original Crossing was no longer able to cope with the congestion efficiently. Planning work on a second Crossing commenced in 1986 to investigate the best location, and the layout of the new approach roads. Work on the new Crossing began in 1992, and was completed in 1996.

As a company we oversee the operations of the Crossings, and make sure they are kept in the best possible condition. This includes performing regular maintenance work and carrying out any necessary repairs. Due to the high volume of traffic using both of these Crossings, it is vital that caring for their upkeep is assigned the utmost importance.
